Beverley cocktail bar relaunching monthly comedy nights

House of Bevs will host live performers on the first Monday of each month

A cocktail bar in Beverley is set to relaunch its weekly comedy night, hosting live performers every Monday.

Since opening on Beckside last summer, House of Bevs has defied the odds and flourished as one of Beverley’s most charming nightlife spots. They serve traditional and bespoke cocktails with names such as the ‘Blue Moon Margarita’ and the ‘Budgie Smuggler’, as well as hosting live entertainment.

House of Bevs, also known as HOBS, are soon to relaunch their monthly comedy nights, featuring a February show with six live comics. Organised by experienced promoters Mike Linwood and Elise Lawrance, the night will run once a month starting from Monday, February 6 at 7pm.

Speaking to Hull Live, House of Bevs co-owner Joe Welsh said: “We started comedy last year because we wanted to offer Beverley something different and not many places are offering comedy here. In fact, the comedy circuit in the UK is really small so we have performers from all over on a national level who are eager for venues to perform in.

“We have built such a reputation for live comedy that professionals have been performing so they can test new material out before they take it to big theatres in front of big audiences. So, people may catch a big name from time to time.

“We have locals who come weekly and are now die hard fans and our comedy nights have inspired them to try out performing and have now performed their first gig at HOBS which is really great to hear. I really want to push live entertainment and support performers and their arts, so the comedy night is a platform for anybody wanting to get their name out there and we use our platforms to help promote each act.

“We’ve had Jed Salisbury perform who’s an extremely funny guy and had the room in stitches. Rich Stott is also a professional who has been on ITV multiple times and Comedy Central sets. He typically plays theatres but he originally has roots in Beverley so he is a huge advocate of the venue. Rich has also done the Edinburgh festival which is the holy grail in comedy.”

Announcing the relaunch of their comedy nights on Facebook, House of Bevs posted: “Our Monday night live comedy is returning February 6th. New comedians and a bunch of laughs are guaranteed.

“Send us a message to book your table. A small deposit of £5 is required which will go towards your welcome drink.”

House of Bevs, situated near Beverley Beck, specialises in both bespoke and classic cocktails, as well as offering high-grade Italian coffee. The cocktail bar occupies the building that was formerly the Travellers’ Rest café.

House of Bevs is located at 36 Beckside, Beverley. You can book your place at the next comedy night and find out more about the business by clicking here.
