Teachers from schools across the country will be walking out today for the first day of a series of strikes.
This will be the first of four strike days due to be held in our region during February and March, after nine out of 10 teacher members of the NEU voted for industrial action.
Headteachers will decide if their school will remain open. Members of the headteachers’ union, along with school support staff, will not be partaking in strikes after they failed to attract the 50 per cent turnout that is legally required to declare one.
Teachers walking out are expected to form picket lines outside their respective schools. Meanwhile, a wider day of action will be held by unions in Hull city centre. The main event will be a march around the city centre, due to start at 11.30am.
