Two thirds of people say they will consider buying their Christmas presents from charity shops this year, according to a new survey.
The UK’s leading children’s charity, Barnardo’s, has partnered with Atomik Research who have surveyed over 2,000 UK adults about their festive shopping preferences and found many consumers are considering charities rather than traditional retailers when thinking about buying the perfect present for loved ones.
Overall, the capital scored highest among UK regions and nations with three quarters (75 per cent) of Londoners saying they would consider buying presents from a charity or charity shop followed in second place by Scotland at 70 per cent and the South West third at 69 per cent.
Charity Christmas cards remain a festive favourite for shoppers with 43 per cent of UK adults surveyed stating this would be the type of Christmas card they would normally buy. In contrast just 1 in 10 adults opted for E-Cards, however this figure rose to more than a quarter (26 per cent) for adults in London.
The average UK adult is looking to spend £760 on presents for loved ones this festive season, but for Millennials this figure more than doubles to a whopping £1,600.
Expected to top the list of most popular Christmas presents this year will be clothing (43 per cent) followed by health and wellbeing accessories and toys and games (both 32 per cent), while the average adult can also expect to use 7 rolls of wrapping paper to wrap up their presents.
