Burgers and hotdogs are common Hull Fair food, so I was surprised to hear about stone-baked pizza being a new offering at Hull Fair this year.
Stable Pizza Company, based on Beverley Road is known for being a pizza haven that ‘comes to your back garden.’ Already amassing an impressive 129 reviews all recommending the food and customer service over on their Facebook page, I was keen to see what they had on offer for the showground.
Found on the Spring Bank end of Walton Street, Stable Pizza Company stood out due to the fact that there was a fire lighting up the stall, rather than the buzz of neon lighting that you usually see across the fair.
They had plenty of options to cater to everyone, from a classic Margherita to Chicken & Sweetcorn. The one that caught my eye was spicy ham.
Priced at £9 – £10 for a 12-inch pizza didn’t seem too bad to me, and with a £2 can of drink to accompany it, I had a full tea for just £12. Better yet, they accepted card, which made my life a lot easier.
With the fire burning (I bet the people behind the counter had one of the warmest spots in the whole fair), just as the drizzly weather rolled in, the smell alone had me excited to tuck in. Before long my pizza was paddled out of the oven and into a box and swiftly handed over to enjoy.
Opening the box, I was impressed with the amount of toppings. Full of ham, peppers and sprinkled chilli flakes for good measure – you couldn’t go wrong.
Each slice had that perfect kick of heat, and the crunch of the crust was perfected by the stone baked oven (probably one of the best ways to have pizza, in my opinion). The meat was tender and melted on the mouth.
At 12 inches, you could easily share this pizza between a few of you. If you’re heading to Hull Fair for the rest of its duration, I’d highly recommend paying this place a visit.
